My next book is coming along. I suppose I’m about ten days behind. I had the beginning of the baseball season, the Masters (I like watching golf) and a Neil Diamond concert to distract me this weekend. In addition, my editor is ill, so we will see what happens in the next few days. I should be done with the first draft by the 12th and will immediately head into rewrites.
The story is coming along nicely and I’m at the very end where tension is high. I like writing this part because twists start to pop into my mind. We’ll see how the end goes. I’ve got it mapped out, but sometimes it’s better to write with the flow and ignore parts of my scene outlines.
A Sip of Magic has been sent to editing. Pol has a lot of challenges in this story, but he finds new friends amidst the ones he already has. Here’s the cover blurb:
Expecting to resume his studies after a long absence, Pol Cissert is disappointed when he is drafted by the Emperor’s Seeker to infiltrate into Tesna Monastery. His mission is to verify rumors of a new army being raised by the South Salvan King, a man he perceives as an enemy. Pol will face new challenges, not the least of which will be figuring out the mysterious roommate that arrives not long after he learns about the Tesnan’s plans to take over the world.
And here is the cover! The release of A Sip of Magic is targeted just before Christmas.
The third volume of The Disinherited Prince is in Draft Mode. Since this is NaNoWriMo, I am dedicated to finishing the draft by the end of the month. I’m about a third of the way through and my wife is going out of town next week, so I’ll have some great opportunities to tickle the keyboard and make a man out of Pol Cissert.
As always, the process of writing always produces surprises and this draft is no different. Pol gets a new companion that plays an unexpected role in the book. There are reversals of fortune and plenty of surprises along the way.
A big thanks to those of you who have joined Pol in his journeys. The Disinherited Prince series is a record seller for me. Tell your friends and neighbors about the fun you’ve had reading about him. I know that’s a shameless plug, but then this is a website for shameless plugs, I guess. 🙂
Magician In Battle, the fourth and final installment of the Power of Poses series debuted on June 24, 2016 and is currently available on Amazon and other e-book retailers.
It’s always a bit sad to say goodbye to the characters I’ve created, but, as usual, my folks have left their worlds in a better place than how they found them.
I will take a hiatus from writing fantasy over the summer and will return with a new series, yet to be titled, in the fall.
I’ve just sent the MS to my editor after going through the story a few times. Magician in Battle is just about ready to go. The cover has just been completed and here is a preview.

The armies of Dakkor and the forces of those allied with the three other stones collide on a dead continent in the stunning conclusion of The Warstone Quartet.
I had a great time creating The Warstone Quartet, but now that it’s complete, it’s time to move on to my next project, the first book in the Mechanisms of Magic trilogy. I haven’t quite decided on the title of the first volume, but it takes place in a world where there are magical ‘eddies’ where only certain people can use magic to power useful devices. After a long period of time (approx 500 years) there is a Shift where the eddies change and magician’s magic no longer works in that eddy. More info on that is to come.
